How to Fit Pabloskates Slotted Quad Roller Skate Heels
Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels are designed to sit between the skate boot and plate, providing the additional heel height needed when fitting quad plates to suitable boots.
Unlike a conventional heel with fixed mounting holes, our pre-cut slots allow the heel to be moved and aligned before the mounting bolts are fully tightened. This makes it much easier to position the heel accurately beneath the boot and plate, even when different plate designs use different mounting-hole positions.
This guide explains how to fit and correctly position your Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels.
Before You Begin
You will need:
A pair of correctly sized Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels
Your skate boots and quad skate plates
Suitable mounting bolts, washers and locking nuts
The correct tools for your mounting hardware
A suitable spanner, socket or hex key
Your normal plate-alignment equipment
The plate must already have been correctly sized and positioned for the boot. The slotted heel helps you position the heel beneath the plate, but it does not replace the normal process of correctly aligning and mounting a quad skate plate.
If you are not confident drilling or mounting roller skate plates, we strongly recommend having the work completed by an experienced skate builder.
Replacing an Existing Skate Heel
If you are replacing an existing heel, simply undo the rear mounting bolts on the existing skate plate, then carefully remove the old heel from the boot. Once removed, follow Steps 1 to 6 below to fit and position your new Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heel.
1. Place the Heel
Place the slotted heel against the underside of the boot, with the flat mounting surface facing the skate plate.
Position it approximately where it will sit once the plate is installed. At this stage, it does not need to be perfectly aligned. The slots allow its position to be adjusted after the mounting bolts have been fitted.
Make sure the heel:
Sits flat against the underside of the boot
Faces in the correct direction
Does not obstruct any existing mounting hardware
Is the correct size for the width and shape of the boot
The heel should provide a stable mounting surface without extending unnecessarily beyond the sides or rear of the boot.
2. Fit the Skate Plate
Place the skate plate over the slotted heel and line it up with the intended plate position.
Insert the rear mounting bolts through the plate, heel slots and boot. Fit the washers and locking nuts inside the boot, but do not fully tighten them yet.
The bolts should be secure enough to hold everything together while still allowing the heel to move beneath the plate.
If you tighten the mounting bolts at this stage, the heel will be clamped in place before you have had the opportunity to position it properly.
The plate itself should remain correctly aligned with the boot throughout this process. Adjust the heel around the established plate position, rather than moving a correctly aligned plate simply to match the heel.
3. Adjust the Heel into the Perfect Position
Put the washers and mounting nuts on the mounting bolts and do them up hand tight. With the mounting bolts still loose, slide the heel within its slots until it sits correctly beneath the boot and plate.
Check the position from every direction:
Look from the rear to confirm that the heel is centred beneath the boot.
Check both sides for a balanced and even appearance.
Make sure the heel fully supports the rear section of the plate.
Confirm that no edge is protruding excessively.
Check that the heel sits flat without twisting or rocking.
Do not rely on a single measurement or viewing angle. Skate boots often have curved or irregularly shaped soles, so visual alignment from the rear and both sides is usually more useful than measuring from one outer edge.
This adjustability is the main advantage of the slotted design. You can position the heel precisely after the mounting bolts have been inserted, rather than depending on fixed holes being in exactly the right place.
Take your time with this stage. The final result will look cleaner and provide more even support when the heel is accurately positioned.
4. Hold the Heel in Place
Once you are happy with the position, hold the heel firmly against the boot and plate.
Make sure it does not slide while the hardware is being tightened. It can help to check the position again from the rear while maintaining pressure on the heel.
If it moves, loosen the hardware slightly and reposition it. Do not continue tightening a heel that has slipped out of alignment.
5. Tighten the Mounting Bolts
While holding the heel in position, gradually tighten the rear mounting bolts.
Alternate between the bolts rather than fully tightening one side first. This allows the plate and heel to pull together evenly and reduces the chance of the heel twisting or being dragged out of position.
Tighten the hardware until the heel is securely clamped between the boot and plate. Do not overtighten the bolts, as excessive force can damage the boot, mounting hardware or heel.
Use suitable washers and locking nuts so that the mounting hardware cannot easily loosen during normal skating.
After tightening, perform another complete alignment check. Make sure:
The heel has not moved
The heel remains centred
The plate still follows the intended mounting line
The heel sits flush against the boot and plate
There are no visible gaps
All mounting hardware is secure
6. One Perfectly Positioned Heel
That is one Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heel correctly fitted.
Repeat the same process on the second skate, paying close attention to consistency. The two heels should sit in matching positions and present the same amount of visible material around each boot.
Before skating, inspect the complete mount and confirm that every bolt and locking nut is secure.
Check the mounting hardware again after the first skating session. Newly assembled components can settle slightly during initial use, so it is good practice to confirm that nothing has loosened or moved.
Why Use Slotted Quad Skate Heels?
Traditional replacement heels often use fixed mounting holes. This can make fitting difficult when the holes do not match the skate plate or when the ideal heel position sits slightly away from those fixed points.
Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels provide a much larger adjustment range. The heel can be positioned after the plate and mounting bolts have been fitted, helping you achieve a cleaner and more accurate installation.
The slots also make the heels compatible with a wider variety of quad skate plate designs and mounting-hole positions.
Available Sizes and Heights
Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels are available in multiple sizes to suit different boots:
Small: recommended for approximately EU36 and below
Regular: recommended for approximately EU37 to EU44.5
Large: recommended for approximately EU45 and above
They are also available in different heights and a wide selection of colours, allowing the heel to be matched to the boot, plate, wheels or other components.
Boot shapes vary considerably, so the size recommendations should be treated as a guide. Always check the physical dimensions and select a heel that provides suitable support without excessive overhang.
Final Safety Check
Before using the skates, confirm that:
Both heels sit flat and securely beneath the plates
The plates remain correctly aligned
All mounting bolts use appropriate washers and locking nuts
No bolts or fixings are loose
Nothing has shifted during tightening
The complete assembly feels solid, with no rocking or movement
Recheck the mounting hardware regularly as part of your normal skate maintenance, particularly after the first few sessions.
Correctly fitted, Pabloskates Slotted Quad Skate Heels provide a secure, clean and highly adjustable solution for mounting quad skate plates.
