Why Convert Nike Bauer Ignite 22 Boots?
The Nike Bauer Ignite 22 is another fantastic candidate for a quad skate conversion. Like many of the classic Nike Bauer models, it offers a comfortable fit, good flexibility and a lightweight feel that works exceptionally well for roller skating.
While the Ignite 22 isn't quite as rare as the Ignite 44, they're still becoming increasingly difficult to find. Most pairs were used heavily for ice hockey, so finding a clean pair in good condition can take some searching.
Their classic Nike Bauer styling and comfortable construction make them a popular choice for skaters looking for a vintage hockey boot conversion with plenty of character.
Why Use Sure-Grip Avenger Aluminium Plates?
The Sure-Grip Avenger Aluminium plate is designed for skaters who want maximum responsiveness and agility.
Its distinctive 45-degree truck geometry allows for deeper edges and tighter turns than traditional 10-degree plates. This gives the skater a lively, reactive feel underfoot that's particularly popular amongst rhythm, jam and dance skaters.
The aluminium construction provides excellent strength while keeping overall weight down, making it an ideal match for the lightweight Ignite 22 boots.
The Conversion Process
The original ice blades were carefully removed before the boots were inspected, cleaned and prepared for conversion.
The Sure-Grip Avenger Aluminium plates were then accurately aligned and mounted to ensure the skates perform exactly as intended. Correct plate positioning is critical for stability, comfort and control, so every pair is individually mounted rather than relying on factory mounting locations.
Once assembled, the result is a custom-built quad skate ready for years of skating.
How Do They Skate?
The combination of flexible hockey boots and responsive Avenger plates creates a skate that feels lively and effortless to manoeuvre.
The Ignite 22 provides excellent ankle mobility, while the Avenger plates reward subtle weight shifts and edging movements. Together they create a setup that feels quick, smooth and highly responsive.
For skaters who enjoy rhythm skating, jam skating or simply cruising with a more agile setup, this combination works exceptionally well.
Who Is This Setup Best For?
This setup is ideal for:
Rhythm skaters
Jam skaters
Dance skaters
Intermediate and advanced skaters
Anyone looking for a vintage Nike Bauer conversion
The responsive nature of the Avenger plates means this setup is often best appreciated by skaters who already have some experience and want a skate that reacts quickly to their movements.
Nike Bauer Ignite 22 Availability
The Nike Bauer Ignite 22 is becoming increasingly difficult to find as fewer good-condition pairs remain available.
They're not quite as rare as the Ignite 44, but they're certainly not common either. When a decent pair appears on the market, they tend to attract attention from both collectors and skaters looking for a quality conversion project.
If you can find a pair in your size, they're well worth considering for a custom quad skate build.
