Why Convert Nike Bauer Flexlite 14 Boots?
The Nike Bauer Flexlite 14 is widely regarded as one of the best ice skate boots for quad conversions. For many skaters, it is the epitome of what an ice-to-quad conversion boot should be. The reason is simple: the Flexlite 14 offers the perfect balance of comfort, support and flexibility. It has enough structure to give confidence and control, but it is not overly stiff like many modern high-end hockey boots.
Once converted to quads, the Flexlite 14 delivers that classic converted hockey skate feel: supportive, responsive, comfortable and natural underfoot. It is a superb choice for recreational skating, rhythm skating, jam skating and general rink or outdoor use.
Why Use Sure-Grip Rock Plates?
The Sure-Grip Rock remains one of the most popular entry-level and recreational roller skate plates on the market. Lightweight, reliable and affordable, it offers everything most skaters need without unnecessary complexity.
With its 10-degree truck geometry and adjustable toe stop, the Rock plate provides predictable handling and a stable feel, making it particularly well suited to outdoor skating, cruising and general recreational use.
For skaters looking for a practical and cost-effective conversion, the Rock plate is difficult to beat.
The Conversion Process
For this build, the original ice hockey holders and steel runners were removed before preparing the boot for quad mounting.
The Sure-Grip Rock plates were carefully aligned to suit the skater's intended use. As with all conversions, plate positioning is not simply a matter of following the centre line. The final mounting position was selected to provide the best balance of stability, control and manoeuvrability for this particular setup.
Once mounted, the hardware was secured, adjusted and checked to ensure everything was correctly aligned and ready to skate.
How Do They Skate?
The combination of a Nike Bauer Flexlite 14 boot and Sure-Grip Rock plate creates a skate that feels comfortable, stable and easy to control.
The supportive hockey boot gives excellent confidence when cornering and transferring weight, while the Rock plate delivers predictable handling that suits a wide range of skating styles.
This setup is particularly well suited to outdoor skating, rink sessions and recreational cruising where comfort and stability are often more important than outright agility.
Who Is This Setup Best For?
This conversion is ideal for:
Recreational skaters
Outdoor skaters
Rhythm skaters looking for a comfortable setup
Returning skaters getting back into the hobby
Anyone wanting a reliable quad skate without spending a fortune
The forgiving nature of both the boot and plate makes this a great all-round package for a wide variety of skaters.
Nike Bauer Flexlite 14 Availability
Like most Nike Bauer hockey skates, Flexlite 14 boots have long since been discontinued. Good used pairs still appear on the second-hand market, but finding clean examples in popular sizes is becoming increasingly difficult.
If you spot a pair, they're often well worth considering for a quad conversion.
