Not every great quad skate conversion needs premium components. Sometimes, pairing a comfortable hockey boot with a dependable entry-level plate creates the perfect setup for recreational skating.
That's exactly what we've done here, combining the Bauer Supreme S140 with Playmaker plates to produce an affordable, lightweight quad skate that's ideal for both beginners and experienced skaters looking for a reliable everyday setup.
The Boots
The Bauer Supreme S140 was designed as an entry-level ice hockey skate, offering excellent comfort and support for recreational players. Its anatomical fit profile provides good heel lock while remaining forgiving enough to feel comfortable straight out of the box. Premium nylon construction, comfort foam ankle padding and a microfibre liner all contribute to a boot that's easy to wear for extended periods.
Unlike many high-end hockey boots, the S140 isn't excessively stiff, making it a great candidate for quad skate conversions. It provides enough support to inspire confidence while allowing the natural ankle movement that's so important when roller skating.
Why the Playmaker Plate?
The Playmaker has become one of my favourite entry-level roller skate plates because it delivers exactly what most skaters need without unnecessary cost.
Its reinforced nylon construction keeps weight to a minimum while providing dependable performance for everyday skating.
Some of the advantages include:
Lightweight reinforced nylon construction.
Stable 10-degree truck geometry.
Strong and durable design.
Excellent value for money.
Perfect for indoor and outdoor skating.
For anyone building their first pair of custom quads or working to a budget, the Playmaker is a fantastic option that performs far better than its price suggests.
The Conversion Process
Every conversion starts by carefully removing the original ice blades before preparing the boot for its new life on wheels.
The Playmaker plates are then individually aligned to suit both the boot and the skater. Correct plate positioning is one of the biggest factors in how a pair of skates performs, so every build is carefully mounted rather than simply following the original blade holes.
Once mounted, the hardware is checked, the trucks adjusted and the finished skates undergo a full inspection before leaving the workshop.
Finished Result
The Bauer Supreme S140 and Playmaker combination creates a comfortable, lightweight quad skate that's ideal for:
Indoor rink skating
Outdoor cruising
Recreational skating
Learning new skills
Everyday skating
It's a setup that offers excellent value without compromising on comfort or reliability.
